Let's compare - I say this is a Hairy :



f/8, 1/800, ISO-400... E-620 w/ 70-300 @ 158mm

I'd say Downey.

Check the tapered short bill with this poor shot through a dirty window complete with screen. This is a Harry.



The other way you can usually tell is by looking for black spots on the white outer tail feathers. If you see the black spots (two in this case) its a Downey.



One spot here.




There are some Downeys that don't show this, however. This is a Downey too.



Its one of those things with my shooting. As common as Harry's are around here, they are feeding here all the time, but when I go out, they won't come into decent camera range for me, and when they do, I mess up the photo. I need a decent Harry pic!!!!
