Its early on, but here's a couple.

182mm f3.5 ISO 250 from the old micro-motor 50-200

A crop

Same 182mm focal length and f3.5 aperture only ISO400

and the crop

Still early on, but I wouldn't rush to buy it for C-AF tracking. Its about the same as far as I can tell, but I have only started messing with the settings.

Ok, High ISO time.

These were a JPEG with no noise reduction. 100% does show noise, but I'm pleased.

E-5/300mm/EC-14 at 425mm at f5.6 and ISO2000

Same settings (ISO2000)

Not a great pic, but I did get one of a nuthatch. ISO3200 same outfit and no noise reduction.

Another at ISO3200

Greg,

Noise performance looks great! IQ is great overall, as I would expect!

Hey Greg

ISO 2000 is looking very nice and 3200 looks good too! Keep us posted on what you think about the AF esp CAF,if theres any OOF issues.

Cheers

Pretty darned impressive. I'd be pleased with that ISO 3200 performance too!

Thanks, northern Greg!

That's consistent with other folks using the E-5: ISO3200 is very useable. Amazing - I always figured the best I'd eventually be happy with, would be ISO1600 on a 4/3 sensor. Who would have thought that 3200 would be that good?

So the interesting thing is that with the f/2 SHG lenses, we're at the same exposure level as CaNikons at ISO6200 with their f/2.4 lenses. Welcome to parity (more or less) at a way lower price (as long as we Oly folks don't need a really good C-AF)...

Ted

Edit: Plus the sweet spot for the SHG lenses is, you guessed it, f/wide open.

I've had the camera all of a day now, and there was a heavy overcast all day. There is more that I don't know than what I do know. I will say I'm pleastly surprized by ISO3200. Since I'm generally careless enough in my shooting, I'm looking forward to Lightroom picking up support for the raw files.

I need to wait for the C-AF evaluation because I never had real good light to test it today.

S-AF has been positive each and every time. It nails focus time after time. I even had the 50 f2 on it last night with the old BLM-1 battery in it and it locked positively in some really horrible interior light. I can't say I really had much bad to say about the E-3's S-AF system, but the E-5 is better yet.
