Actually it was kinda fun, I was chatting with a Kiwi guy when I worked with Air New Zealand. He was telling me about his time in Santa Barbara working on the "Guppies". Well the foreman came over telling us we'd been chatting for far too long. He was right of course but it got me thinking so I called the US embassy and asked if they needed and aircraft mechanics. Four days later I had an interview and a couple of days later I had the so called "Green Card" and my life did an about turn.
I thought maybe a year or two working holiday.....and many years later, here I am still.
Kinda like it despite the Bush years!!!

Here's another pic from back then. Nicosia Airport, 1AM going terrorist chasing!!!
I'll never be that young again

Hmm - I'm realizing that that's why I asked. Those times (and the Reagan years before that) had me thinking about Canada or Australia, and wondering if I could be OK with leaving. I was a senior manager in the Department of Energy getting solar research done, and Reagan set that back 8 years. Now we're funding Al Queda instead of alcohol fuel producers in North America. And he's a hero.

Way cool. None of us will be that young again.

My wife wanted to go and live in England for a while during those years but instead we found an island with no internet...!!!!!

If I went back to England to live and Sharon, the Oregon girl loves Cornwall, then I'm talking lottery money..

Default Roger Ebert: "The Greatest Music Video Ever Made"

If you haven't seen this, take 10 minutes and watch it. This is a promotional video for the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Mayor, police and fire departments participated, as well as (seemingly) half of the residents. It was carefully choreographed, the participants all got in place, and then the video itself was shot just once, uncut and unedited. "American Pie" was dubbed in.

Truly remarkable. In one week Rob Bliss has become a legend among my pro videographer friends.

Been reading the book "The Bang Bang Club" (soon to be a movie. Oh it is a movie, just watched the trailer.) It's about a group of young photo journalists in South Africa during the 90's and time of change and violence in that country. With side trips to Somalia and Bosnia.

Not your dickie bird and deer in the yard type photography, it's hard core stuff, realy hard. It's also fascinating reading. Don't know if I could do it, or could have done it back then. (when I was younger) Don't even know 'yet' how I feel about the togs that did it, the brain has to go to a completely different place!

They didn't escape the violence themselves and a couple paid the cost, the rest have to have mental scars.

I'll be thinking long and hard about it after I'm done reading.

Well UPS says my 70-300 is on their truck for delivery today. Curious (and aprehensive) to see how it works.
Now if we get some sun this weekend the NW is not among you guys with the heatwave, droughts and states burning up.

Folks who have that lens seem to really like it - you should have fun with it.

I had it before I got my 50-200mm. Personally, I think it offers the best bang for the buck of almost all the Oly lenses. The only reason I sold it was to offset the cost of my 50-200mm.
