Default Firmware upgrade?

I've got an e300 which I bought new several years ago.
It's never been upgraded.

Is it recommended to do it?
Will it noticeably improve the camera? (the camera seems to work fine for me now)

Is there a danger of screwing up something which already works alright?

As I understand it firmware is like the software which controls the basic camera functions.

BTW I tried to download the upgrade years ago but ran into a glitch issue around my using a Mac puter.
Maybe now with many more Mac users out there with Intel based Macs this has been resolved.

Anyway I'm a bit reticent about attempting to fix something that already works.

I would simply go to the Olympus website and see what the upgrades you have not installed were designed to "fix". I seem to recall a firmware upgrade for using the 70-300 on the E300, but if the firmare upgrades you have not loaded do not fix anything you have a problem with, why even consider it?

Thanks

What I was thinking, the camera seems to work fine.
I'm still trying learning how use it to it's potential.

"Work fine" is subjective. If you upgrade today your only choice will be the latest version 1.5 of the firmware which covers all the previous upgrades. If you go to the following page and click on E-300, you'll see all the upgrades that have been done including critical upgrades like battery life during sleep mode, memory card support, stability of metering, lens support previously unsupported, improved white balance, and more. The link is:
http://www.olympus.co.jp/en/support/...tware/firm/e1/

Now, is it possible to screw up the upgrade process, of course it is. How most people screw it up is not wait for the camera to say "OK"...they see the message what they are supposed to see on the camera being shown on the computer, and they think it's done.

Personally I've upgraded all my bodies and lenses to the latest firmware, and never had an issue.

The instructions on how to upgrade is located at the above link at the bottom of the page ("Upgrade Procedure").

In addition to what has already been stated, I would add that before you perform any upgrade charge your battery.

One last point; Mike is right in that you must wait to see the "OK" logo appear on the LCD of the camera.

I recently upgraded the firmware on my 12-60SWD using my IMAC 21". It seemed to take forever before the LCD went to "ok".

Yep I went ahead and updated. In hindsight I was having some white balance issues.
The process was much easier than what they offered years ago. Before there wasn't a provision for Mac users. Things really have changed a bunch in 5 years.

Though when the camera screen went "OK" my computer locked and I couldn't click next. Kinda spooked me but every seems fine. I hope!
