Fred: I think you will find better prices in the US. In addition to KEH having a used one for $299. B&H Photo Video has the new Mark II for $479. I don't keep up with current exchange rates between the US and Canada, but it still seems like a better deal than what you were quoted.

Hello Steven
I will most likley buy from the US. Exchange is almost par
There is only 1 problem with me buying from the US.
Most Ship ONLY FedEx or UPS to Canada
at least KHE.com, B&H and Adorama ( Spelling )
FedEx and UPS charge a BOGUS $ 60.00 to $70.00 Brokerage fee.

So the lense would cost me over $ 400.00 used
or $ 579 from B&H new.

I will look for someone who will ship USPS .
That will cost me $8.00 + 5% tax

Or make friends with someone in Spokane, or Havre Montana. Or talk to JimFlinchbaugh over at fourthirdsphoto.com - he lives in Kalispell. Have one of them get it, and drive over to pick it up.

Hi Fred,

There is a fellow over on Fourthirdsphoto.com in the buy/sell forum, that has a 14-54mm lens listed as available for 350..USD. He lives in Toronto.

I don't know the fellow, so, can't speak for him. But you may want to investigate this as a possibility.

Also, another fellow who is in Missouri has a 14-54mmm lens available for $300.00

Hello Zig
Thankyou very much .
There is one on e-bay I am interested in . The main reason it is locally.
I can look at it before I bid.
I e-mailed the seller. He does not know if it is a MK I or MK II
I don't know either. I would think there would a price difference.
Can you or anyone tell if its a MK I or MK II

http://cgi.ebay.ca/OLYMPUS-ZUIKO-14-...item1c179d823b

If it does not work out I will contact the two you sent me.

Many thanks
Fred..

FYI,

McBain (Edmonton) is selling this: "Olympus E 14-54mm F2.8-3.5 Lens" for $275 at their main store (107ave). See http://www.mcbaincamera.com/used.php...d&attr=Olympus

It might be a good deal ... and it is "close" to your place...

Hi Fred,

The lens pictured on the EBay site is the MkI version. The MKII has a silver and blue ring around the lens barrel just behind the front element.

Yes, there is and should be a price difference with the newer lens being more expensive. Reason being, it has an improved High speed imager support for improved AF performance. That, and circular aperture blades improve the out of focus background.
I, personally can't verify performance as I don't own one nor have compared it to the earlier version. but, according to the Olympus release and subsequent forum discussions I've read on DPreview, I believe that to be true.

Now having said that, it it no way makes the 14-54MKI an inferior lens. It still is a good performer, sharp, and at the lower prices I've seen - a good value.
