Default Some 14-54mm images from a party

We attended what is rapidly becoming a tradition. Our host invites several ex-felons that we've established a relationship with through our ministry to a Christmas party (and several other "soirees" during the year). This was a sort of trial run for the 14-54mm I acquired recently. All of these were shot with no flash and VERY little PP. Looks like I'm going to have to get a LOT of practice for the June wedding.

This one was out of the ZS-7 while demo-ing it to a friend. This is straight OOC.

This one is soft but I like the pose

I told you that you have an eye for portraits - #7 is a particularly good one. It needs more DOF which tells you that you either need faster glass or a flash with a Demb reflector, before the wedding. The flash + Demb is cheaper.

Thanks very much, Ted. I have the flash and several diffusers and reflectors. In fact, I picked up a Fong LightSphere with several color domes for it and it should be here any day. I also have the Stofen and the DF383 comes with the little pop-up reflector. My objective in shooting these was to see how well it would do without flash. I should have used a little higher ISO. 400 was just a tad short.

In my experience you want to be higher than just on the edge, of the DOF. If the wedding has the same level of lighting, going to 800 ISO won't get you what you want.

I can't believe I'm recommending flash - I hate flash (I've used my FL-50 maybe 5 times in as many years). But unless you can get f/2 glass, flash is what you'll need.

I ain't crazy about it myself, buddy. I sure can't afford f/2 glass and this wedding ain't paying enough to offset the cost. Sooooooo flash it will have to be. I think he church I'll be shooting in doesn't allow flash during the ceremony (a LOT of 'em don't, I'm finding out) but, I can probably get by with ambient light. It's fairly well-lit. Reception I'm not worried about. I can specialize in burnt retinas heheheheh
