Default [pics] Chestnut-breasted Mannikin

The Chestnut-breasted Mannikin is a native of the northern & north-eastern parts of Australia. These beautiful little birds are usually found amongst reed beds & rank grass. The Sanctuary has a specially developed enclosure for these mannikins, which is also home to a number of other small birds.

This particular bird was bathing in one of the ponds with several other mannikins from the resident flock.

This particular bird was bathing in one of the ponds with several other mannikins from the resident flock. I fired the onboard flash as I wanted to highlight the beautiful details in the plumage. This had the added affect of darkening the surrounds & producing an almost mirror-like reflection on the water.

Nice photos! I actually like the first one better, with the contrasting wood on the branch and how the mannikin fits into the environment.
