Default [pics] Whistling Kite

Following a citing of a pair of nesting Whistling Kites at Braeside Park by a fellow member at BirdingOz (now Feathers&Photos), I decided to make the trip to Braeside to check out the nesting site. The pair were nesting in a large gum tree in the park & using a dead tree nearby as a resting/look out point. On my first attempted approach of the site, the kites took to the air.. & would stay there.. for ages!

Throughout the day I tried different techniques to get close enough to the dead tree without being noticed & disturbing the birds, but each time the birds would either already be in the air or take off before I got anywhere near them. So I decided I would try & hide amongst some nearby trees where I could view the kites favourite landing branches & still be out of site. After about 40 mins or so I was rewarded when one of the kites came in & landed right on the branch I was expecting! I managed to fire off a couple of shots before the bird took back to the skies.

Great captures, Adam.
It pays to be patient.
