Default A very good Carl Zeiss lens

is the core of the really great Logitech Webcam Pro 9000. I mention this because a lot of us (you know who you are), when we were much younger, had expected telephones to be video phones long before now. But that technology really is here and pretty close to being free - it's just not on land line phones.

You really can do a videoconference call with your family members or friends, very easily. Although it's showing up in smart phones, you can do this yourself right now if you have a computer and high speed internet. If you have a relatively new laptop it probably has a built-in webcam and microphone, as well as speakers. If you don't have this, get yourself this Logitech webcam which includes a microphone (I assume you have speakers), autofocus, digital zoom, and auto exposure compensation. Then sign up for a free Skype account, or download and sign up for the free Logitech Vid HD network (you don't need to have a Logitech webcam to join their network). Get your your family members or friends to do the same. It works well and is a lot of fun. The audio quality with the Webcam Pro 9000 is better than a land line call.

I'm really having a lot of fun with this.

Ted

PS: I have been advised that women tend not to be amused by impromptu video calls - best to schedule them in advance.

Thanks Ted, I had no idea the lens quality on that Logitech.

I like their products, I use their wireless mouse on all my computers and also the wireless keyboard on the desktop one.

Yeah - it's very good and sells on Amazon for less than US$60. I also use their small wireless mouse with my laptop.

Have you tried video Skype?

Nope, I'm not sure I want to have to clean up and shave every time I use the computer. LOL

Come on you guys....focus...

I use Skype a lot. Sunday I chatted to my daughter and her family in china for over an hour, even got some work done as I wrote up an offer. and all for free.
I'm using a 3G link and while on the audio it's just like realtime phone chatting but with the camera there's a distracting lag. So I don't use the camera unless I'm showing them something.

She took her notebook and walked Sharon and I around her apt in Shanghai a while back. Showed off her chinese artwork and decorating. Oh and Dave, her husband trying to hide in bed..

On the desktop I use a headset with built in mike, that way I can keep the sound down.

Yeah, Ken, Skype is a great service and at least in North America the Video doesn't slow things down, but gets you to being there.
