In the case of a jay the heading should be "Casing the joint!"
Nice photo.

I think Ken's right - he's the badass of the bird world.

Gary, although the feather detail is as good as always in your photos, the bokeh in this one isn't as pleasant as usual - somewhat distracting.

He's bad but he's cooooool. I think I stopped down the aperture a bit and that made the willow a little more definitive. Let me see what I can do with it.

Funny how poeple see things in different ways, guess that's why they call it art.
I like the background and IMO I think it works and offsets the blue of the jay.

But then that could be why I was a mechanic..

Yes we're all different. For me, the upper right corner tends to lead my eyes away from the subject.

....Ted, you said, "Yes we're all different. For me, the upper right corner tends to lead my eyes away from the subject".

Try looking at it from the other side, I'm left-hand and I don't see it as a distraction at all,,,,, just a thought, you may want trying a mirror.

hehehe, could not resist, though I am certain I've set myself up for something unsuspected at some time.

Gary, I like your photo as presented. The background does compliment the subject for me as is, if the background were opposite with the bird facing the harsher area of the DOF then it would be quite distracting IMO.

As it is, well done for me.

My eyes didn't even go to the background until it was mentioned. The blues are really deep on my screen and the white stripes really stand out. A beautiful Blue Jay.
