Default ....more from Lake Arlington

Every summer the Arlington Parks dept has a contest for photos made in the parks of Arlington, it is a fun thing to promote the parks, the prizes are, the selected photos are printed, framed and displayed in the city business offices.

We have more than 150 parks including Lake Arlington and a couple nature preserves. I visit the nearby nature preserve a couple times every year but just have never given Lake Arlington much thought even though it is very near & I pass it by several times every week. So, the past week I've been to the lake at 0630-0700 to check it out....... I should have been going there before this. FUN mornings for sure!

These were made with the E-3 & 50-200; I wish for an EC-14 or 20 at times.

common red Fox squirrel

ordinary mallard Drake

Great Blue heron

Black-crowned night heron

Excellent shots Bob. My guess is that the next to last photo will be on a wall there pretty soon : )

Well done Bob. Like them all, but I think I agree that #6 would be my choice.

I am TOTALLY enjoying that you're out photographing again, and doing it well.

Our landlord unexpectedly put our house up for sale and we're not interested in buying it at anywhere near his asking price. So we're moving this weekend and I'll probably be out of touch some.

(Although my company loaned me a 4G Verizon aircard so I could be a beta tester for the weekend, so I could be in touch except my bride seems to want me to participate in moving. Go figure...)

Oh man, good luck with the move. it's never a pleasant job. I kinda figured your next move would be to Arizona.

Geez, Bob. All nice, but I really like 3-7. Those are REALLY sharp! Those red eyes of #6 have me staring at him/her.

My Great-Great Grandfather's homestead is somewhere on the bottom of Lake Arlington. They moved to Tate Springs at some point before 1880. He died there and is buried at Hawkins Cemetery.

Great work Bob!

And it is fun getting up early in the morning and watching mother nature and the world waking up all around you. Most people miss the best part of the day.

Love the images -especially the last 3. I've never seen the bird in shot 6. An interesting bird.

Zig

The bird in #6 appears to be a Yellow-crowned Night Heron.
(While they are pretty common here in Florida, I didn't realize that they were found in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area.)

.....thanks everyone for looking and commenting.

The lake is so close and an interesting place but like all interesting places one should visit often to see the abundance of change every time there.

Sorry to hear your news Ted, Zig the bird is a Yellow-crowned Night Heron.

Now, I said this as if I knew all along..... not true, I do not know a lot of birds straight away and need to look for identification. It is a beautiful heron.
http://identify.whatbird.com/obj/53/...ght-Heron.aspx. I am going to check out the iPhone/iPad APP for this one.
