Also, I do believe it's true that it is a good idea to periodically reformat a flash card using the command that's in the instrument normally it lives in. (I suspect you already do that but I have to remind myself all the time.)

I tend to do it after I shoot a lot on one card or a couple of small shoots, like a dozen or so at a time. I usually dump the photos off the card after I copy them to computer.

Reminder to self: Time to format after that last 18 shot session.
