My city, Arlington, TX USA, does a fun photo contest each summer. All photos entered must have been made at a city park during the current contest period.

Fun to do and the 1st-place photo in each category... people, pets & nature, will be printed, framed and displayed in city public offices.

I decided to send in a couple files in the 'nature' division, these were selected.

Both photo files made with the E-3 and Zuiko ZD 70-300

1st place nature

That is fantastic Bob, well done and well deserved! :cool2:
I remember the 2nd shot, but I don't remember #1, I must have missed that post. Great shot!
(Look out Zig, you have some new competition for bird shots!)

.....thanks all for your comments

I like the placings, probably because the hawk has a bit of reputation this year in that it is very 'skittish' from what others have said and it has been difficult to photograph. On this morning after being flushed to the cottonwood tree it perched there at about 30-ft up and posed until I was finished. I've never seen it again; that morning I was lucky.

The heron was fun to shoot (morning at early sunrise), it simply stayed in that one place, moving around and snapping up a crawdad then standing there staring for another. I began shooting at about 20-ft and moving closer finally to within 10-ft. This photo was used in the new city parks guide for the lake entry.

I've had great fun photographing the city parks, having some of my images used by the parks department is certainly rewarding and fun too.

Well done Bob.
What fun and conformation that your photography is appreciated.

Don't want to see you outside the Parks Office holding the brochure every morning..:)

Great pics!

The heron shot is just magnificent! I try to chase the herons here on Chautauqua Lake, but they're very skittish and I don't own the 70-300....yet! But your shot really makes me anxious for Santa to arrive!!
