Default The future of Olympus

I'm sure that most of us have been keeping an eye on developments over at Olympus's HQ in Japan over the last few weeks since the sacking of their new CEO.

The latest news on the company doesn't look good with up to 70% of the companies stock value being lost within the last 4 weeks. With investigations from the UK SFO, the FBI as well in Japan the situation seems to be getting bad to worse.

The latest news in the NY Times;

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/09/bu...e.html?_r=1&hp

Guardian UK:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2...osses-20-years

What happens to Oly over the next few months is anyones guess .. fingers crossed this has a happy ending.

Cheers

Harj

Interesting quote from an asset management company that owns a big chunk of Olympus stock:

"...When asked whether he thought Olympus could survive the scandal, he said: “Keep in mind before all of this happened, the stock was 2,500 yen a share. We still thought it was cheap.” The only thing that needs to be changed, he said, is the people running it and an accounting of where the money went. "

"Mr. Woodford, too, said Olympus still had value. “It’s a good business. You can rebuild the company,” he said."

Thanks for that. To me the most important issue is whether Oly keeps their endoscope business going. All jokes aside, that's critical - colonoscopies are actually able to cure or prevent colon cancer and there aren't many forms of cancer we actually can cure.
