Default Amazing survivor

This leucistic female Northern cardinal has been coming to the feeders for two years now. I'm amazed (but very glad) that the hawks haven't picked her off!

Can't say exactly why, but i find this photo very touching. Maybe because she looks very fearful.

I have to agree, Ted. With the 3-4 hawks that are in the area plus the occasional feral cat, she has that "YOU don't want to eat me, too, do you?" look. Every time I see her at the feeders, I subconsciously breathe a little sigh of relief.

Yes, it's the eye that does it. What makes you say she's leucistic?

I don't get to see many female...or male cardials, just from here.

Ken, the tail and area around the eye normally match up with the rest of the bird.
