Default ! FYI - Olympus just released 5 year business plan

On the Olympus global website is an overview of their just released 5 year growth plan to return to high profitability.
http://www.olympus-global.com/en/cor...f/nr120608.pdf

It is 50 pages, but it is divided into parts, so it is easy to go to the imaging division sections of the report. Definitely will be concentrating on the mirrorless market, and new flagship models utilizing mirrorless technology, and Oly will be eliminating the cheap compact cameras. Hard to tell specifically if there will be a E-7, but if so, probably it will utilize advanced mirrorless technology. But other than acknowledging that the conventional dslr market is highly profitable and dominated by two manufacturers, they are kinda vague on how that segment will fit in the 5 year plan, as they appear to be going full mirrorless, (IMHO). (On the other hand, they are emphasizing return to profitability, but that will most likely be thru mirrorless.)
They are committed to new flagship models as a way to differentiate from other companies. Your guess is as good as anyone as to if the E-7 will be a part of that along with the continued E-M5 type new models.

Anyway, have fun reading. They were just vague enough to give themselves wiggle room to go either way on the flagship models, but how they go will be mirrorless in my opinion.

Steven, someone over at fourthirdsphoto made that same observation and this was my response:

Five year plans rarely put much attention on immediate activities - that's not their purpose. The E7 seems to be close to production (since they've given out some for testing). I would have been surprised to see it mentioned in this Plan, and I don't think its absence is any indication that they don't plan to get it out the door soon. But this Plan definitely means there won't be another DSLR* after the E7, which is what they have been saying all along.

Asians take a longer view than we westerners do.

Ted

*DSLR means it has a mirror
