Default Went back to the aeroplane place!

Did you ever go out with just photos in your mind. Camera bag, lenzes, filters cards and spare battery. Hauling a tripod that would double for building scafolding.

Then found out that you'd left your muse at home.....?

Found I was just going through the motions so just wandered around taking a long look at the exhibits (planes and stuff) and chatting with the people working there.

Not many people on an Oct wednesday morn.

Found that I was having a really good time and found stuff that I'd never knew before.

For one. The Russian all womens air reg. They flew bi-plane trainers, open cockpit, doped fabric. They put a rear mounted machine gun back of the two person cockpit and a bomb under each...of the "lower" wings. Then attack German airbases, at night in, 25 below weather. Cut their engines before they got to the field and dropped bombs from 50-100 ft.
Totally demoralized the Germans, night after night. "In a single night they made 18 bombing sorties into enemy territory"

The things you find out, when you think you know it all.

One of the guys there offered to take our pics. He did a fine job, I think anyway.

Oh, and I'm the big Limey on the left...

Not the best shot in the world but this is the plane those ladies flew.

This from Google. "The Night Witches"

Nice pictures you made !

That does like a very good version of the Lancaster bomber where your next to.
Would you have a full picture of it somewhere?

That is very interesting, Scouse. Thanks for sharing all of that. And I also, was not familiar with the "Night Witches".

P.S. for Lordje: I think Ken was standing in front of a B-25 Mitchell.

Thanks guys.
Steve has it right with that fine photo Lordje, it's the B25, the plane that flew to Tokyo to let the Japanese that they could be reached out and touched.

They do have a mock up of a Lancaster built for training on, it still looks mean as well.
That and some more you may have missed here.

Those photos are fun, Ken - thanks for posting them. You do know that sticking your finger in a gun barrel isn't a good idea, right?

PS: Who's the guy on the right - the other resident of Camano Island?
