Default New(ish) Lens 70-300

Well I've been MIA for quite a while, work, studies and my love for papercrafting has taken over a bit! Anyhoo.....

Had a bit of backpay and some expenses so finally took the plunge and got me a 70-300 of eBay.....took 4 auctions to fimnally win one!

Had a quick play with it today round the business park I work on. I'm not as good as you guys (I do aim to be one day) and I don't have the uber expensive version either but I'm pretty happy with it

Hope you like them, I do.

Sam x

Hi Sam: Congrats on the new lens. Have fun as you learn its characteristics. It likes a lot of light, but it takes good images; and it has excellent close-up characteristics.

I like your shots. Nice colors and compositions. I vote for #2 of the duck as my favorite of the bunch.

How's the focusing speed for you? The first one I got (70-300) was very slow and most of the time would not focus at all. Luckly the guy I bought it from had a second one and replaced it. Focus is much improved. One of these days I'll post a pic with that lens.

Focusing speed was just fine, more blurry shots than with my other lens but with no IS and a weighty lens I did expect it. Was great to get the close up of the ducks without being sat on top of them! LOL

Once I got used to mine Sam, it hardly came off the camera. As Steven said it's great for close ups and with practice you can take birds in flight. The two hummer threads are of Humming birds with the 70-300.

Your first shots look great. Luv the mallards, their cousins are in my yard now.
