Pals

Came across a Whistler Duck and a juvenile Tri-color Heron who were hanging out together at the local wetlands. I watched for a few minutes, and the duck never strayed far from the little heron. It was also kind of unusual to see the duck by itself, as they usually stay together in flocks around here.

Real nice, looks they are keeping a close eye on you.

Thanks James. Yes, they were eying me continuously to make sure that I did not come any closer to their location. I'm sure that they would have flown away if I tried to move toward them.

Great shots - you don't see different bird species hang out together very often.

Thanks Ted. Yes, you are right about "hanging out together". While there are often different bird species feeding together around here in the same general wetlands area , this was the first time that I have seen two species continually walking and moving around together.

Birds of a feather, stick together....most of the time. Good shots Steven.
I've seen domestic 'white' ducks mixed in with mallards and domestic geese in with Canadians.

Could have been left overs from Viet Nam though. <drum roll>

Thanks Ken.
