Default In Memoriam

President and WWII General Dwight D. Eisenhower said:
"I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its futility, its stupidity."

and

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed.
This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children.
This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron."

I'm a Vietnam vet and my father was a tank commander in WWII and survived the Panzers in the Battle of the Bulge. Every time we were together and someone started ranting about the need for the US to go kick some butt, he and I would glance at each other, sharing a thought no one else could see or understand.

I've posted this photo from the Washington Post before so forgive me if I post this again, in honor of those who have died in battle regardless if it was their choice:

Thanks for listening.

G'day Ted

and from the Great Land Downunder - may I say to you and the thousands of other Vets ... a big "thank you" for what you did when called to do so, and the hope that you and your [and my] children never have to do it again

War is not an exciting thing, nor a playtime ~ and I and many many Aussies deplore Hollywood's depictions of war

If we could [ ! ] educate those around the world who seem to believe that the use of a gun solves issues and creates emperors - when it doesn't do so, what a wonderful world it would be to live in

Phil

Thank you all for your kind words.

"the hope that you and your [and my] children never have to do it again"

Amen. Amen. Amen, Phil. What a waste.

Amen brother. And thank you for your service Ted.I would never wish anyone a happy Memorial Day, but I would wish for them a solemn remembrance our family members present and past, who have sacrificed everything on behalf of the rest of us.
