The place of manufacture shouldn't matter in this day and age--at least in the case of the major Japanese manufacturers , who build things all over the map. What is important is quality control, and in order to maintain their reputations, they all try to keep up rigorous QC programs no matter where they build. I haven't heard of any differences at all.

I bought my gears in Japan. The body and EZ 14-45 from China. EZ 40-150 made in Japan. The other lenses made in Japan.

But Olympus has good QC. No matter where the gear were made.
