Default ISO - what's automatic about it

In the 2 years I've had the E-10, every single shot I've taken with the ISO set to "Auto" has been exposed at ISO 80, regardless of lighting level, shutter or aperture settings, exposure mode, focus mode or focal length.

Has anyone observed an Oly E-camera actually choosing an ISO automatically, or is the Auto setting just another name for ISO 80 ?

TIA

I leave my E20 in ISO 80 all the time. I don't want the camera to choose a higher setting because of increased noise in the image. I don't do much low-level available light work, though. If I did, I might try another setting.

Default What is AUTO...

AUTO ISO will do only one thing. It will switch from ISO 80 to ISO 160 (and no further) when shooting with the flash enabled and there is not enough light to otherwise obtain the minimum shutter speed required in that mode (i.e. 1/30 second on the E-10). It has no effect when not using the flash.

garry,
Thanks, I didn't know that. Went right past me when I read the manual, I guess.
