If you have some other function turned on, like Noise Reduction, the camera won't allow you to select the multi-shot drive mode.

Well I guess Olympus then is the first because I just took out my E-300, put it into Manual mode, put the drive mode into burst, and held the shutter release down and got four shots in rapid succession.

My collegue who is the owner of the E500 spoke with olympus about manual burst mode and they were unable to get the camera to burst either.

Any other E500 owners out there who can verify?

As I said above, check to see if you have any noise reduction turned on. If you do, then the camera will not burst (or bracket) in ANY mode (because one counteracts the other).

I just tested this on my new E-500, and it shot burst mode in manual mode just fine. It captures 5 images at SHQ or unlimited at HQ. Check your noise reduction settings. Also check your firmware version; I'm running 1.1. (Not sure if this has anything to do with burst mode, but it's always good to run the latest!)
