Shot my first jpg + raw file today but the problem is that my computer does not recognize the ORF file which I believe is the RAW file. Are there any free editors that I can use for now to view and process this type of file? I have Adobe Photoshop 7.0 andPaint Shop Pro neither of which recognizes the file. I also have the Olympus Master software installed but can't seem to open the file in there either. What the heck an I missing or doing wrong. (E-500)

Thanks,

Jim

Did you upgrade the Olympus Master? Use browse images to see the ORF files. I use Adobe Photoshop CS2 with ORF plugin and Adobe Camera Raw3.3 software for transforming ORF RAW to JPG. Use sRBG on the image processor.

mckenna-

Can you tell us where you found the ORF plug-in? Is it part of the Adobe raw package for CS2.

Corel Rawshooter essentials 2005 is out on freeware (do an internet search for the site).I downloaded it with no problem to compare with the RAW editor in Olympus Viewer. The insturctions (via the HELP menu) aren't the best IMHO but after playing with some test images I was able to figure out what I needed.

You can download the latest version from here which is compatible with all E-System cameras:

I see Camera RAW 3.4 has just been released for CS2. Olympus had a CS2 Plugin on their E-500 download site.

Nope- the first version of Elements that supports RAW files is Elements 3.0.

See the attached link below. Note the message in the paragraph about how Elements 3.0 is the first version of Elements to support RAW files. Today there are no upgrades for 2.0 to allow for RAW file manipulation.
