Hi All

I know this is a bit of a silly question but I'm curious over how you can find out what firmware version my new E1 has. I was led to believe by the retailer that it had version 1.4 but I have a feeling it could be version 1.1 but I've not been able to work out how to find this out from the camera.

Cheers

Harj

Just use the Olympus Viewer software...if you click Update Firmware it will check what firmware is in the camera, and check if a newer version is available.

If it was an E-300 or newer, there's actually a menu item on the camera to list the firmware, but the E-1 has a weird method of doing it.

Don't forget that lenses, flashes, and other accessories also have firmware.

How to do it on the E-1 WITHOUT the computer:

Switch off the camera
Open the media cover on the camera.
Switch on the camera.
Ignore message saying cover is open
Press the Green arrow play button and the OK button simultaneously.
Firmware version will be displayed on the LCD screen

There's an easier way:

1) Open the door for the memory card, remove the card and LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN.

2) Switch on the camera (you will get the graphic on the LCD showing the door is open).

3) Press Play (the little green arrow key) and OK at the same time. The LCD will then display the firmware version for the body and lens, if attached.

Want your shutter release count? From Step 3 listed above press in the following order...up, down, left, right, press the shutter release completely, up (ignore the numbers on the LCD at this point) then right. The first number, signified by the letter "R" is your shutter release count. Got this from someone on the dpreview site and it works.

I wouldn't call it "easier", because if you have to update it you'll have to do the steps on the computer anyway! :G

Hi Mike, Riley and Stow

Thanks for that neat tip - I had been thinking they would have buired it in a menu somewhere on the camera. Its currently on version 1.1 and the lens is at v1.0 so I'll be updating both of those today.

Cheers

HarjTT

PS

Just applied the update - Oly have made that pretty easy to do.

This page has all the info you need about firmware including instructions on how to update the camera (at the bottom of the page)...make sure Olympus Viewer is updated to at least 1.1 before trying to update the camera (since everything else is so old the software might also be old):
