Don't have a Pen, but as an FYI on the Olympus German website they mention the VF2 and VF3 as options in the EP3 manual. Please disregard if the forum already is aware of this.

I am figuring this is going to be a lower-cost, lower spec finder along the lines of the Panasonic accessory EVF. I have been wondering how long it might be before the VF2 was superceded by a new, improved model. I do not think this is going to be that. I am now on my second micro body that uses the VF-2. The more generations it continues to be a viable finder, the better the initial investment.

It does look like the vf-3 is smaller then the vf-2 with the diagrams. Would be interesting to see what the specs are.

The link below seems to confirm a cheaper, less resolution VF3..
http://www.43rumors.com/ft4-vf-3-has...tion/#comments I would think twice about going for this finder just based on being cheaper. The resolution of the VF2 is REALLY a nice feature and is part of what makes manual focusing so easy on the Pen. Less resolution and (possibly) cutting down on the eye relief sounds like a not-so-good combination. Last edited by Greg Chappell; Jul 18, 2011 at 2:42 PM. |

I would expect a significant resolution difference with the pixel count being cut 35% from the VF-2.
When I was at Arlington Camera last week I used a VF-2 and now I understand better what everyone says about it.....

Someone at DPreview found the VF-3 already listed on the Olympus site here..
http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_se...1&accessory=53 The Panasonic clip-on EVF for the G series has an enemic 202,000 pixels and yet costs $145. The VF-2 is a $250 finder, so I would guess $175-$200 is going to be where the VF-3 falls, cost-wise. While I was on the Olympus site I checked the Olympus Store just to see if it was listed yet and it is not. Is $50-$75 lower than the VF-2 enough to create a huge outpouring for the VF-3? If the price comes in closer to $150 I know there'll probably be a lot Panny users just a little irked at the 4x more resolution VF-3 being priced close to the same as their only option. From the specs at the above link, it says there's a locking mechanism on the VF-3 although that is not visible in the image. Must be on the side with the diptre adjuster. The VF-3 is now available through Olympus USA
" Electronic Viewfinder $179.99 (VF-3) The VF-3 is a compact viewfinder that provides 100% field of view and 1.00x magnification. The VF-3, which is compatible with all PEN cameras, is excellent for outdoor, low-angle or telephoto shooting." The press release and details can be found at http://www.olympusamerica.com/oai_He...sp?pressNo=860 And somehow I missed the news release here at Steve's 2 days ago http://www.steves-digicams.com/news/...the_e-pl3.html Last edited by KulaCube; Jul 29, 2011 at 2:54 PM.
