The new E-5 still has no 1080P. This matches my guess in the other thread: Olympus is sticking to the ancient motion-jpeg because it is easy to add 720P (no hardware needed) and can use the great Oly jpeg engine for video (bonus is art filters can be used for both still images and video). The downside is: impossible to do 1080p because of the very limited compression rate of m-jpeg (1/20 vs. 1/200 of H.264).

So, the next PEN will mostly do 720p only too. I'm glad that I did hold my breath for the next PEN for possible 1080p and bought the E-PL1.

I don't think Oly is wise on this regard. 1080P is way more important than few art filters.

Ingorance is bliss I guess when it comes to movie modes.....I still haven't shot a seconds' worth of video with my E-PL1 and most likely that'll still be the case a year from now.

I can understand that the still image is too good for a serious photographer to care much about the video side, but from the stand point of market, no 1080p, no future.

For the size, features and especially price, E-PL1 is the very first camera that brings superb photos to consumers market, where video does matter, very much. Oly seems knows about that; they did the commercial with a PEN, but they face a tough choice: art filters or 1080P.

I think they should select the latter, because art filters can be done on a computer, but no way to convert 720p to 1080P.

oly is rumor to have a 75-300mm coming out with HD video in mind with silent AF and stepless aperture.

Will the price of 14-150mm go down after a year or so?

i am excited for the macro on the roadmap. and will eventually get the 9-18.

the rest is not that exciting.

really we need a normal fast prime 50mm equiv 1.4 (so 25 1.4). and a higher quality midzoom, something more like the 12-60 reg 4.3 lens

According to this review:

http://www.amazon.com/review/R2L0F49...wasThisHelpful

The 14-150mm is terrible for video. AF noise is still there and in-body IS no longer do its job when zoomed to 100-150mm.

Three good things about it: 1) C-AF is smooth even if it is slow, much smoother than 14-42mm. Smooth enough to be usable. 2) It is half the weight of the Panasonic rival. 3) It is cheaper than the Panasonic.
