Default Clean lens with a tape?

I've been using transparent tape (the one on almost everybody's desk) to clean small screens such as camera's LCD, smartphone's touch screen, etc. So convenient and effective, get all dust and even finger oil off easily. Just tape on very gently, then tear away. Impossible to scratch the surface.

I wonder why I should not use this method to clean my lenses?

tape will add a slight residue to the lens, so over time it can build up. And cause dust to be harder to remove

And what will something adhesive do to the lens coating?
