Default New Olympus PEN Firmware - Adds VF-3 support to past models

Olympus has just announced new firmware for their existing PEN cameras (except the E-P1), as well as the XZ-1 prosumer cameras. This firmware adds support for their new VF-3 EVF.

See our news blog for more details!

Nice catch.

From what I have seen, there may also need to be a firmware update for the E-P3 to use the VF-2. There have been a few complaints from users about intermittant problems when using that combination.

OR....do the EVF's have embedded firmware that can be updated? My guess would be no, but....

On the same lines, is their anyway I can find the v1.1 firmware update from my E-PL2 kit lens (not body) around here? My camera came with v1.0 for the lens.

All you have to do is plug the camera in to your computer via the cable, open the Olympus Viewer or Master software and check for updates. The software will walk you through updating the software in the lens. If there is anything new for the body, it will perform that too.

Just make sure your battery is fully charged. You do not NEED a fully charged battery to do the update, but what you do NOT want is to start the update with an almost depleted battery. If the battery dies before the update process is completed, you will be left with a bricked camera that will have to be sent in to Olympus to have the formware reinstalled.

Thank you both for the helpful advice. I never installed the Olympus software yet so I guess I better do that right now. Thanks again!

Software/firmware update on the E-PL1 is very slow and take a long time to finish. It is imperative to have a fully charged battery in your camera before doing the update. It took so long, I thought it was failing. I was so glad that it finally finished.
