According to 43rumors.com Olympus will announce a new m43 camera complete with built-in EVF sometime in Feb.

Makes sense, Zig. The price of the E-P3 has dropped 100 bucks and I understand this camera will be in short supply soon.

I'm not so sure this new camera will replace the E-P3 at all. The E-P3 has been out long enough it's probably about time to drop the price as they typically do after the initial sales period.

I wouldn't be suprised if this new camera and the E-P3 is positioned in the same way Panasonic now has the G3/GH2 and the GX1. B&H shows a new "street shooters kit" consisting of the E-P3, 14-42, 12mm f2 and VF-3 finder that's supposed to be available starting some time this month.

Would they just start selling a kit like this using a camera that's about to be gone?

If anything, it could be the E-PLX or E-PMX line is about to disappear. Having these two lower level lines seems a bit redundant to me.

Well, wherever it falls within the product mix, if it does indeed have a built-in EVF, it will have finally addressed a major shortcoming of the existing line of Pen cameras.

Yes, as would the possibility of dual PDAF/CDAF system. Imagine it actually being able to AF the four-thirds lenses, even just close to as well as the DSLR's..

As much as I agree with you, I'll be very surprised if they make any significant improvements to the AF. Oly does things in such incremental stages that they frustrate the heck out of me.

Maybe this time I'll be surprised. Wouldn't that be nice..............

Yes. They've fumbled around to the point Nikon and Sony both beat them on the mirrorless ability to use phase detection AF with their two lines.

If anything, Olympus is consistent.

......if the camera is kitted with the new 12-50 lens it will be an expensive package; per pound! I will need to stay happy with my P3/VF-2 for quite a while.
