This is a really bad set of options. Bad PR for Olympus. I know I've seen a post over at DPReview where a guy said he bought a couple of the standard pieces when he bought his VF2 because he knew he'd lose it at least once.

And I think it's ridiculous to pay 62.85 to have an eye cup replaced. If they have them to replace with a repair order, why aren't they available to sell.

....when I first got the lens I thought of removing the tape but I did not really like the lens on the E-3 and hooked it to my E-300 where it stayed (sat) for nearly a year. I forgot about the tape so it stayed and is still there.

I believe the 70-300 was the first to have the blue tape, now all the other 2nd-generation FT lenses have it.

.....the VF-2 eyecup

It is likely a demand issue and Oly may well be canabilizing VF-2 assemblies for a limited need and one day the assembly will be refitted and sold as 'open box' off the online store.

There simply is no available 'std' piece for the VF-2 and in common-sense terms no EP-9 either. Check this link, that is all that is listed for the EP-9, nothing for the standard part. http://tinyurl.com/7zcox4j

The EP-7 for the dSLR cameras are plentiful and cheap.http://tinyurl.com/7gbnkcr

B&H was again my choice.... $16USD vs and about $70 at Oly America.

Just doesn't make sense. They make available the EP-9 as an add on accessory but you cannot buy the standard eye cup. Weird.

Guys: it may be a case of the supply disruptions that several Oly officials mentioned in recent interviews. Between earthquakes, tidal waves, typhoons and flooding ranging from Japan to Thailand, Oly has mentioned problems with suppliers.
