....how does one know a female Bluebird from the male?

I love the Bluebird shots and curious to the question.

as is the case with many species of birds the female is more subdued and the male is more bright blue.

These two shots are a female, you can see especially in the second one the back is more brown. The head is also more grey than bright blue.

and these are of the male, notice the back is almost completely blue and the head is likewise almost solid blue
