Default ....I got on the list at Arlington Camera for the M1

....I am still looking here (at the forums) when I get a FREE minute.

For the past 5-weeks, here at the house, we've been involved in a total rebuild of our master bathroom; it has kept us totally involved and busy.

BUT.... this past Saturday I had some time to get to the local shop (Arlington Camera) to get myself on the list for when they get the M1 on a shelf, they have 11 of the M1 on order.

My friend Gil at AC will let me know at first opportunity, I will take my bag of FT lenses and probably check only the 9-18 and 70-300 for AF......... that will likely be all I will need to push me over the 'buy' edge.

Oops! gotta run, still more stuff to do here and Bonnie just said, "I'm ready", so off we go.......

Hi Bob,

Hope the OM-D1 arrives soon....

BTW, Martha & I spent the weekend in Manhattan visiting friends. I brought along my D600 & associated lenses, that I thought would be appropriate.

My friend is also an enthusiast & during each trip, we sneak away in the morning to a new area that we think might prove interesting to photograph.
This time we chose to go to Wave Hill, Queens, Central Park, and Franklin Heights.
All of these areas involve a subway except Wave Hill which involved a cab ride. I don't mind telling you that I'm getting a little too old to be schlepping all that gear around. More than once, I wished I had brought the EP-2, instead.

It's not that I don't like the D600, on the contrary, I love it's output. But, there is no better reason to get, a small lightweight camera i.e. OM-D1 along with a couple of small lenses, than a trip to a destination knowing that a lot of walking will be involved. My shoulder got so tired of lugging my pack that I decided not to bring it with me to the Museum of Natural History. BIG MISTAKE. There was a butterfly exhibit complete with a wide assortment of live tropical butterflies living/flying in their natural habitat.
The exhibit was spectacular-only problem was, I had no camera with me.

ugh!

Zig

Bob, I hope the M1 proves to be as good as your bathroom renovation.
And to Zig's comment, I'm always amazed at the size of the equipment back packs I see the full frame folks schleping about and their endurance with these packs. And here I am with a spare lens in my jacket pocket. Love the m4/3 format.

Wow, 11 on the list. I see Olympus America is now shipping the E-M1 and 12-40's so it shouldn't be long now before AC starts getting their units. I'm kinda surprised they haven't yet.

Functionally, the E-M1 looks definitely to be a step up on the E-M5. especially with the bigger zooms like the 12-35 and 35-100 f2.8 Panasonics I've been using recently. I'm back onto the prime kick now, which all work wonderfully on the E-M5 and are noticeably sharper across the frame than either of the Panny zooms, especially the 12-35. I would imagine the 12-40mm f2.8 M. Zuiko is going to wind up being the best Micro standard zoom. The Panasonic 12-35 is good. Wicked sharp in the center of the frame but the corners are inconsistent. Sometimes great and sometimes noticeably soft. Something similar to what this reviewer said at the top of this page..

I've held on to three of my four-thirds lenses, the 70-300, 50mm f2 and 8mm fisheye Zuikos. I've read the 50mm f2 focuses better on the E-M1 than it does on the E5.

No, No, 11 is the count AC has on order, not all listed to customers.

No money deposited since the 11 are for standard shelf inventory.

Zig, I can relate to the baggage of the big rigs, I've grown so accustomed to my E-P3 that to haul the E-3 is very telling at the end of a day.

I used my E-3 for the recent 2-day shoot I did for the art festival here last month, mostly because it was raining off & on for the weekend..... sometimes heavy so the E-3 & 14-54 were my choices.

... and I ended having to make a choice: Nikon D7100 with the 18/140 ... or the OM-D EM-1 with the MMF-3 (kind of free). So, I am now on the waiting list for the EM-1 ... and I will have a nice E-30 for sale shortly after it arrived.
