Default Zuiko 12-40mm f2.8- Wonderful Event Lens

Saturday I travelled to Tyler, Texas (90 miles or so East of Dallas) with a friend to do the pictures at his mother's 98th birthday party. Took the E-M5 with the upper portion of the grip attached, 12-40mm f2.8 M. Zuiko, 35-100mm f2.8 Panasonic, FL600R flash with Demb bounce adapter and the Demb bracket to keep the flash centered over the lens in either horizonal or veritcal orientation.

It turned out I could have just left the 35-100/2.8 Panny at home as the 12-40/2.8 Zuiko never came off the body. One sharp lens, if this had been a paid gig I would have been using some additional post processing to tone down the resolution as this lens reveals virtually every skin pore. I'm not one to look at optical bench tests, but at certain points I would not be surprised if the 12-40 at, at least some settings, outresolves the sensor.

They certainly are incredibly sharp and detailed. The birthday girl looks darn good for being 98.

....as I've seen posted before, 'AMAZING'

____________

ok, I've just gone through the Smugmug gallery for this session and I am saying it again -AMAZING- ; the work you do and how you know your gear. Given the gear is 1st-class it won't work wonders on its own, but in your hands the results are photographic beauty.

Those are the best I've seen for indoors. Color, sharpness... you can see individual hairs on people's heads. Gives me something to aspire to.

My newbness is coming out. I had to google Demb bounce adapter because I've never heard of it. What Demb bounce adapter and the Demb bracket are you using? Did they come with the flash or purchased separately?

Again - truly amazing photos.

Thanks. The Demb products are sold separately. The bounce attachment I use is called the Big Flip-it, and he just sells one type bracket..

Fantastic pictures Greg,

Looks very sharp, perfect skin colors and you did a great job with the flash.

Played a little bit this evening retouching the last image, using multiple raw conversions, layers and layer masks in Photoshop. The Wacom tablet and pen makes doing stuff like this much easier than the mouse..
