Light in the Forest
5 Attachment(s)
After a long day goofing off a friend and I were pooped and looking forward to getting home and putting our feet up. The route took us past a rather nondescript day-use area and tired as we were, we decided to pull in anyway. Turned out to be a good move. It's a pretty place and the afternoon Sun made for some nice shadow play in the forest.

Few more from the trail.

BTW - these were all shot with the E-M1 and the Lumix 14-140 f4.0-5.8. Not my favorite lens but it's convenient if there's enough light and you don't want to swap lenses all the time.

What a nice looking place for a walk. That environmental portrait of your friend with the tree trunk is great.

I like those; a nice series with good compositions and realistic colors. Well done.

It was fun playing with the light and color; both in the woods and at the computer. The images really did have that yellowish, late afternoon sunlit tint but in most cases I used Split Toning in LR to push the yellow in the highlights. The color of the ground cover in the 'fork in the road' photo is a bit over-saturated too. The whole place felt kind of like an enchanted forest and I tried to convey the feeling as I learn the different software tools.

Most are 3 image HDR processed in PhotoShop this time. The E-M1 has some great built-in HDR modes. Not the in-camera processed ones. They're not so hot. But you can select from several different bracketing modes designed specifically for HDR. I like to use 3 images 2 stops apart. With my G3 the only way I could get that was to select 5 images one stop apart and discard two of them.

Thanks for looking everyone.
