Default Monument to the Conquerers of Space and the Worker and Farm Girl

I have been in Moscow for the last month for work. Both of these statues I've visited and seen many times on previous trips, but it is always fun to return and shoot them each time.

The first is the Monument to the Conquerers of Space, built in 1964 after Yuri Gagarin's first space flight. It is 110 meters tall and made out of titanium. Kids used to try to run up it, but now they have a full time security guard there.

This is Vera Mukhina's famous statue built in the 1930s, dedicated to the uniting of workers and peasants.

The 2nd I've seen photos of, the 1st I've not and for it to be made of titanium, wow.

I do remember Gagarin's flight.

Nice photos of both, thanks for sharing them with us.

Say what you want about the Soviet Union but they could do grandeur when they wanted to.

Thanks everyone. I'll have some other photos of Moscow this week. I was super busy with work, so I don't have much.

The Soviets definitely built a long line of ideology to remember them. Thankfully, Stalin died when he did or there would be even fewer of them around today to "remember when....". Wonderful concepts, the reality/execution (literally) achieved something much less. Beautiful monuments though.

I can see how the space statue might have been something fun to run up and down.
