Default "Spring hiking"

Winter season is almost over and spring is the forbidden hiking time, as mud season takes way. We have a couple weeks left, so I did two hikes this weekend. These were taken with the 12-40 f2.8. Not sure I'm sold on the lens. It doesn't seem super sharp in these photos from Day 1. Day 2 seems to be better.

Day 1: Mount Moosilauke (~4800 feet, a bit cold at the top)

Day 2: Mount Cube (~2900 feet and closer to home. A nice 15 degrees or so at the top, but a snowstorm moved in before I could get shots of the sunset).

Zoomed in (not crop):

One more - this is a crop. Looks like I have some specs of snow on the lens, which I need to photoshop out.

Gorgeous country, and I admire you for getting out there. Brrrr!

Sample variation always means there's a chance you could have a less than optimal copy of the 12-40. There's not much as can see or tell from the images posted here, other than it's beautiful country and I like your exposures.

Here is the original of one. I didn't apply any noise reduction, so you can see where it is at:

I suppose these are very difficult conditions. It was about 3-4 pm shooting straight into the sun, albeit with some cloud cover.

Very nice pictures Drew, looks like a beautiful place to photograph and hiking.

The ground looks frozen on some some spots.

Really nice series of shots, even though I got cold just looking at them. They really captured the sense of the beauty of winter scenery.

It is around 45 degrees here today, unfortunately (not enjoying the snow melt).

Nice shots drew, I really like the one with the snowshoes, seems like you picked up some interesting atmospheric conditions with either falling or blowing snow or a cloud being lighted up by the setting sun.

How do you find handling the 12-40 during your winter hikes? Really nice country you are capturing. And no mosquitos or blackflies -- bonus!
