Default Oly 5050 or Canon G5?????

I am buying my first digital camera and decided that will go for a 5MP one. I did some research and zeroed in on the Oly 5050, Canon S50. Just when I had decided on the 5050, Canon released the G5. Now I am confused. Can anybody recommend which one is better? As far as I can see, feature-wise they both look the same.

Please help.

I just visited Circuit City to actually have a feel of the Oly 5050. They wern't carrying any. They informed me that this model has been discontinued and that 6060 is coming out in the next few months. Have any of you heard about this :?:

That would be news to me!

Do you have a CompUSA nearby? They carry Olympus cameras (at least, the ones near me do), and I've seen the C-5050 there.

Thanks a lot. Just found out that Comp Usa is carrying this model. Will go and have a look. Also spoke with Olympus. They told that they are still making the 5050 and that the 6060 is not planned for in the near future.

If you decide that you do indeed like the C-5050, I wouldn't recommend buying it at CompUSA though. You can usually find it much cheaper at some good online retailers.

Thanks a lot. Was able to see the camera in Comp USA. You were right, the price there was $800 (taxes extra). Anyway liked the camera and going to place the order on the web. Do you know of any good sites from where I can order?

Go to www.resellerratings.com.
On the right-hand side, type in C-5050. Then click on the link to look at all store prices. It will give you a nice long listing of all online stores that carry the camera, their price and shipping charges. Best of all, it will also give you a cummulative rating of the store from other people who have used them. You want to find a store with a good high rating.
I got mine from dbuys.com. Currently, their rating is 9.21 out of 10, with a total price of $588.90 (as of when I'm writing this...it can change quickly!). I see that 2 other stores have slightly lower prices and good ratings (although the ratings are based on fewer inputs).
Hope that helps!

If you haven't made your purchase yet, check out www.cameta.com, a retail store in Amityville, NY. They conduct all their retail sales of the C5050 on Ebay. You can occasionally get them under $600, but you have to take your chances. That said, I've bought from them a couple times now, and they have been great to work with.
