The SP-550UZ is USB 2.0 full-speed which is slower than USB 2.0 Hi-speed (found on cameras which use SD). Of course with xD, it doesn't matter.

Another interesting thing to note is the price - according to Steve's Review The C750 which was the best Ultra Zoom in its class in June 03 entered the market http://www.steves-digicams.com/2003_...750uz_pg5.html at $699 in 2003

4 years later the better equipped SP550 asan estimated street price willof $499

Its not out in the UK until March but I've already ordered one @ £330 (stepping up from my C750 which has been great and not yet ready to spend the mega bucks required for DSLR wildlife photography)

Will be looking out for a post production review and hoping for good mark

cheers Steve

Any chance this camera could still have a wide screen movie mode.

This would be the icing on the cake for me :G

This camera really has my interest with that incredible zoom.. I have the G7 for everyday carry. Anybody know if its close in size to the G7? If it is my wife gets the G7.

WPdirk,

There are some strange reports about the movie mode on the 550,.......such as a choice of zoom.....OR......voice in video. Also some reports that video, if used extensively, will overheat the camera. Also, no optical stabilization in video, etc, etc..

WHOOOOOO needs video on digicam :blah:.... use a HDV-camcoder for such things.

I saw a lot of 550-pictures, good - but not the sharpest one :-]

I think, I'll buy that cam.

It's all about choices, isn't it? Some people don't want to carry several cameras and camcorders around. For that reason, at least for me, a camera with a good video mode is going to get the nod and my $$$$$. They are available,....

Its funny how people see things different. Ive been looking all over the net for pictures taken withthis cameraand I prefer pictures with sharp detail and I was impresed at how sharp they looked to me. Man the wife is going to kill me when I buy this one.
