Hi all, I'm new here. :?

I own an Olympus C-740UZ with v754u-80 Firmware. I want to take pictures controlling the camera from my PC and I read that I need to use Control Mode, but my Firmware seems to be quite old and I couldn't find an upgrade. Only the Olympus PictBridge that apparently won't work for this purpose.

How can I get the needed Firmware upgrade? Which program will I need for the task and which for controlling my camera?

Thanks in advance.

Perhaps i could help you.

Olympus cameras can be remote controlled. For that you need SDK-supported camera, and list goes here: http://developer.olympus.com/cameras_25.html

You can see symbol * there and that means that you have to update your camera to latest bios version available. That can be done only in Olympus Service, so you cant download latest bios to your camera from internet.

One important thing : DO NOT INSTALL PictBridge update, that will disable remote control functionality.

You can use few different programs to remote control your UZ-740.
For windows try http://www.pinetreecomputing.com/camctl.asp or http://www.sabsik.com/Cam2Com/ if you are a computer freak you can also try to do it with Linux and Gphoto2.

There is one "trick" that you have to do before you can use your camera from pc. Advice can be found from here: http://www.sabsik.com/Cam2Com/04a_pr...era_for_pc.htm

First of all, many, many thanks karhukamera for your time.

I can set my Oly in PC Mode following the "trick" you recommended me, but Cam2Com can't take effective control of my camera. Apparently, the asterisk beside my model number really indicates that the upgrade must be done.

Regretably, the Olympus representative in my country can't upgrade my firmware (even, he doesn't respond my mails). So, if I can't download it, I am in an dead-end.

Again, thanks a lot anyway.

Hi ChelOis,
Probably your firmware does not support the SDK.
You need newer version. Give some contact details and I will try to help you.
