Default little annoyance with the c740

Hi,
I've been playing a little and I found already an annoyance that I can't seem to fix.

In Auto mode the resolution mode defaults to HQ.

I need to everytime change it to SHQ.

Is there a way to make this permanent in Auto mode??

To be candid, don't use Auto mode! ;-)

The better auto mode is the P or Program mode (everything's automatic except ISO).

Don't know the C-740 specifically, but on older C-7x0's powering up in Auto mode causes a reset, so whatever settings you used previously are gone. If you power up in other modes, you didn't have this problem.

I have very limited knowledge of photography and all these settings are still unknown to me, that's is why I like the auto mode so much.

But I will try to start using the P mode from now on...

Why did Olympus made the Auto to reset the resolution mode???

I can understand reseting all the other settings but why mess with the resolution???

Just leave at whatever the user chooses...

The P-Mode is auto except better. I don't know why Olympus bothered with the auto mode on a full feature camera like the 7XX series.

Auto is for those who know nothing about photography. Problem is (besides the reset issue) it also messes with the ISO ("film" speed)...with higher ISO, although better for lower light photography it causes more noise in the pictures.

For most times, ISO100 (daylight) or ISO200 (indoors) is all you need. To be honest, I leave mine at ISO100 at all times, unless I'm in a situation where I can't use the flash.

There's a site at http://www.photocourse.com near the bottom of that page, "the old site"...there they have an online "book" on the basics of photography settings...it's a worthwhile read.
