I still do not understand why Olympus introduces cameras in Europe before they do in the US.

Last time I checked, Olympus-America was in the US.

Anyway, could it be that it takes less time to travel from Asia over land?

I have to say though, a 27mm is nice but why only F2.8??? Sometimes I think they get different designers for every camera, especially since the 5050 was an f2 lens!

My thoughts as well Mike. To me the extra wide angle coverage over the C5050 (27mm compared to 35mm) isnt worth lossing the 1 huge advantage the C5050 seemed to have on almost every other camera on the market...the F1.8 lens. It definately doesn't seem like a far trade off IMHO.

Personally, I'd rather buy the C-5050 and carry around a .7x wide-angle converter for those times I want extra wide angle; I already do that with my C-700, although I also wish that was not limited to F2.8.

Gipsonpd,

how can I say this without offense - are they obliged to introduce their products in the US first?

If you you were in Europe, you would ask a different question:

"Why do Japanese manufacturers charge us 30% more than their American customers?"

It happens that you can buy your Olympus or other digital camera at an extremely favorable price, partly at our expense. I do not envy you and do not blame you, but such are the facts.

Regards, Herbert

PS. I have to correct myself: I envy you.

I don't know the whole answer to your question, but it is at least in part (perhaps entirely) for the same reason that gasoline costs twice as much in Europe as it does in the US - taxes. You should ask the king to reduce them.
