I have my c8080 WZ for some years now, and since some months, it makes a slight rattling/cackling noise when focussing. it does not matter if the lens is zoomed out or not, the zoom itself works perfectly fine. but while focussing, it rattles. has anybody an idea what might help?
and the second question: what would you recommend as a replacement camera? i am looking for either a dslr or another "prosumer" compact camera, but with the same or better wide angle and image quality.
thanks for the answers

Hi: Sorry to hear of problems with your C8080. It's a generally tough, rugged camera that takes great shots. I use mine frequently, even though I also own several other digitals, including SLRs.

Several thoughts come to mind:

1. moving to a dslr. The most likely candidates would be the new Oly E-420 or E-520. However, if you are used to the handling of the C8080, you should look at the older Olympus E-330. I think the E-330is the most similar in handling to the C8080.

2. changing to another non-slr camera. There is the SP-570 from Olympus, the Sony DSC-H50, and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ series.

No matter which direction you go, you should considered fixing your C8080 to use as a backup camera. Even though it is several years old, it still has impressive image quality.

Good luck,

Steven R.
