All I use the CaMedia software for is to stitch together panoramas. A cheap card reader is all you need to transfer pics, and you can get other software to do all the editing you need much more efficiently. I use CompuPic, but there are countless other excellent low cost or free alternatives out there.

Actually, I've used Panotools for reasons other than panoramics (although I've used it for straightening panoramics too). One of my main uses for Panotools is for straightening out the barrel distortion in my wide angle lens:
