The consensus in these forums seems to be that it is a non-issue. My single experience did not seem to affect the images on my card at all. But since I did not print from the card before and after it went through the equipment, I can't be absolutely certain.

The point is probably moot. Attitudes and policies are making it increasingly difficult or impossible to have anything avoid going through the screening gear. Even mailing your card home to yourself (as if that were an option) might expose it to some kind of Buck Rogers ray!

Another alternative might be to take a laptop or portable CD burner with you and copy the cards to a CD before going home. That of course doesn't avoid having the CD's go through the scanners nor your memory cards on the way out.

But for the time being at least, it's not an issue as far as I have learned.

Just got back from Thailand with loads of security screenings both from the US and intra-Thailand on many different flights. I took over 800 pictures in two weeks, having burned some off the chips mid-trip at at computer place in Chiang Mai so I could reformat the two 128mb chips I had with me. Everything went through airport screenings many times and all 800 pictures are now safely on my hard drive. No worries FYI
