Default is the 5050 worth it

I'm thinking of upgrading from my c740 to a 5050. The only thing that slightly worries me is that the 5050 seems a bit old compared to all the new cameras coming out. Am I going to regret buying an older generation cam like the 5050? I would consider the 5060, but I'd really like the fast f1.8 lens on the 5050. My question is, is the fast lens worth it?

The F1.8 lens is an excellent lens. It is great for low light and quality pictures. There are advantages to the C5050 over the C740. You have an external hot shoe, photo assist lamp, moveable lcd, 5mp and the ability to use several memory products. You may be disappointed in the 3X optical zoom as compared to the 10X on your 740.

I have the 720, 750 and the 5050. I primarily use the 750 and the 5050, but I use them for different subjects. Each has characteristics that lend themselves to special situations for me.

I don't use one in place of the other; I use them both using the strengths of each camera. For example, I recently did a photo shoot of a special event that was staged indoors. I used the 5050 with its faster lens and got excellent results.

I agree with Jerry in his use of two great cameras. I also have the C4040, has the same lens as the 5050, and the Nikon 5700. The c4040 is my choice of cameras for alot of indoor shots where lighting is not great.

My 5050 is used by my wife and daughter. when the time comes for underwater it gets liberated and placed into its plug and play UW housing where it works real well.
