Default Oldies, But Still Cameras w/Very good Image Quality

Just for fun, I went and pulled out my C-2100/UZI and C-4040 camera for a little comparison. I really had to search for the needed SM cards, but I still have two of them.

So take a look, these were #1 cameras is their day back in 2002 and 2003. And they used Smart Media Cards and were 2mp and 4mp cameras.

The older Olys had great glass and took superb shots even though they lacked all the extras of todays lot. I had the 765C which was 4mg and 10x optical. I wanted as big a zoom as I could get in a non dslr and at the time that was about the biggest. I cost me 460 bucks and I loved it. It took great shots and gave me the opportunity to learn how to start using manual settings although I normally set it on the landscape mode which seemed to work better than my abilities at the time. A shot from the 765, the oldies were goodies.

Default My first experience with Olympus

was the Olympus C-5060WZ. I bought primarily to use for taking interior shots of homes for home appraisal reports.

I found it to be a great little performer with a 27mm to 110mm zoom lens that took very sharp images. I brought it with me when my wife and I took a cruise through the mediterranean. I still have framed photographs of Venice hanging on the walls from that trip.

Sadly, I sold it to partially fund a new lens. I wished that I had kept it as it was a great travel camera, just the right size with a great focal range.

Hi Zig-

You will find the C-5060W selling on E-Bay currently at under $100.

What's a good model of Oly? I don't need all the fancy add-ons like video. I'm also not after megapixels as photos will be for prints mostly 5x7 or for the Internet.

Hi: are you interested in an advanced point and shoot? or are you thinking about a DSLR? Are looking for small size to fit in a jacket pocket, are more interested in a bigger model.

I have had a C-8080 for years, and it's built like a tank; much studier than the lightweight Oly P&S of today. It can be had for a reasonable price on e-bay and would probably suit you needs without spending a lot of money.

Good luck

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I'll take a look at the models you mentioned. I just need a basic p&s. I already have the Canon 400D and 500D for DSLRs.

a-beginner-

A good number of Olympus C-5060's and C-5050's have popped up on E-Bay in the last several weeks.

I had a D-380. It took great pictures. 2 megapixels.
Hunters are hacking and using them as trail cameras now.
