This is a loaded question that only you will be able to answer for yourself in the final analysis.
I just purchased an Olympus 750 and am very glad I did, after much homework and comparison (Sony 717, Canon G5, Kodak 6490).
I have had a Minolta Dimage 5 and the 7i, was going to go Canon G5 since my wife also has Canon, but after coming across the Olympus 750 and trying it, WOW!
I really like the idea of having that ZOOM!!!
And the images (after all that is what we are after), Olympus does not take a back seat to no one in the image department.
Matter of fact, I much prefer the way Olympus image comes out in people over Canon's pinkish to orange(ish) colors; Olympus faithfully captures the natural image.
I almost have bought the Sony 717 several times, but I cannot get use to its looks and how it feels in my hands (other wise a very capable imaging machine, especially in lower light).
Well, long enough, I am happy with the Olympus 750; the only problem is now my wife wants one.

Good Day,
