If you leave the file name setting in its default mode then when you erase your memory card the file name suffix will be set back to 000. So if you then take some more photos on the same day you will end up with duplicated file names. AUTO does not set the suffix back to 000.

Purchased 256 xd Oly brand cards from Sams for $83 and from Amazon for $88 with free shipping and no sales tax. Shouldn't have to pay $79 for 128.

yeah apparently the prices at newegg were very screwy that night...

in the end i paid $169 total, and received a 512MB & 128MB xd-card so it worked out well 4 me

You can change the picture name just about anywhere... like in Windows Explorer, for example. Right click on the file name of the photo, then select 'Rename' and type in the name you want.

As for SHQ vs. HQ - if you have the space on your hard drive or CD, it's best to always shoot at the highest resolution and highest quality setting, because you never know when you're going to take a great shot that you'll wantten 8x10 inch prints of to give to friends and family. As long as printing is even a remote possibility, SHQ at best quality is the way to go.
