Thanks for your reply. What dou you think of the review from luminous? His conclusion:
Quote:
If you've read this review from beginning till this point you'll likely have been unable to escape the conclusion that Olympus needs to do a bit more homework when it comes to designing features and functions. Image quality completely aside, the C-8080 simply isn't competitive with the Sony F828 in a large number of areas.

Given the functional superiority of the Sony, and the fact that there will be highly competitive cameras coming along soon from Nikon, Canon and Minolta, it's hard to see how one can recommend the Olympus C-8080.
And what about writing RAW files to disk? Is it really slow?

Regarding to the image quality, this is my person opinion after took a 20 test-shots each:-
Canon = Nikon = Oly > KM > Sony

As per your requested, I do a quick writing test follow:
Under P mode - RAW - 12 sec.
Under P mode - SHQ - 3 sec.
I am using a Sandisk CF (come with camera bundle), and I am planning to buy a Kington Pro Elite or SanDisk Ultra II, I hope this will make a faster speed.

Default luminois

as for the Luminous review....I was worried about that too...

But are they talking about the buttons and how hard it is to learn, cause that isnt really that important if your willing to learn it, as long as it takes good photos...anyone agree that that is what luminous was saying?

and thanks for the speed tests DCNEWBIE!!

Sounds promising!

What writing mode do you use the most? The RAW format requires some post processing e.g. in Photoshop. So maybe you get better results when using PH and the right plugins. Did you try that?

How does the Oly compare to other cameras when writing in RAW mode or SHQ in terms of speed?

SHQ is far enough to me, and you can see my sample shot under "Just a test shot from C-8080"

Some friends of mine use RAW format to take commerial shot, and edit the photo on computer. But, I am just lazy to do so, and I would rather take a couple photos, and select the best shot.

FYI, Cameria Master v.4.2 come with Oly 8080 support simple editing of RAW format, and you can also upgrade to Pro. version for $19.95 + Tax.

I didn't compare the writing speed of the other cameras, as I believe that the writing speed also depend on the memory card.

Well Chris, What if the kids are in same situation OUTDOOR DAYTIME??? It is because of my slow reaction I cannot take the cool photo! Just kidding!

If the flash recharge time is a question, then I will buy a external flash instead.

Hi,

Yesterday I was in photo store , and I held the 8080 in my hand. They also had the Powershot Pro 1. The grip of the Oly felt much better. The main disadvantage of the Oly seem the manual focus buttons, which a rather awkward. The Pro 1 has a nice manual focus ring.
Could anyone comment on the use of the manual focus buttons? Is it a pain to use them?

Greetz,
